Historic Preservation Commission

Planning Commission
The Athens-Clarke County Planning Commission will vote on multiple zoning changes and special use permit requests for residential and commercial properties. Commissioners will consider rezonings near Whit Davis Road and Newton Bridge Road, alongside applications along US 29 Highway. A proposed Westclox Special District Overlay and a corridor land use change will also be discussed. The agenda includes standard administrative updates and public comment periods.

Hearings Board
The Athens-Clarke County Hearings Board will consider a variance request from Orion Athens LLC to reduce the required riparian buffer width to match state standards for a proposed mixed-use residential development at multiple parcels on West Broad and Reese Streets.

Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board

Athens in Motion Commission
The Athens in Motion Commission reviews and discusses the final draft of the Athens in Motion plan revision from Toole Design Group, with a deadline for commissioner comments by June 5. Staff provide updates on the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan (recently accepted), applying for implementation funding, the RAISE grant, and contract negotiations for the Reconnecting Communities Program on Hawthorne and Oglethorpe. The commission also notes the passage of TSPLOST 2026 and plans for a Better Bus Athens networking workshop.

Airport Authority

Land Bank Authority

Solid Waste Advisory Commission

Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission will vote on 10 Certificate of Appropriateness requests for alterations, additions, demolitions, and new construction in historic districts including Bloomfield, Boulevard, Milledge Ave, Downtown, Rutherford, Cobbham, and West Downtown. Items include a rear addition at 175 Wilcox St, demolition and new construction at 330 Barber St, and window replacements at 283 E. Broad St. The commission will also nominate and elect officers and receive committee updates.

Board of Elections

The Board of Elections unanimously approved resolutions to place the Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) for property tax relief and the Education Local Option Sales Tax (ELOST) continuation questions on the November 3, 2026 ballot. They also approved a resolution to hold a special election for Board of Education District 8 on the same date. The director reported on the June runoff election and a scheduled statewide recount for the Public Service Commission race.
