Police Chief Search Committee Sets 12-Week Roadmap for Hiring New Chief

The Annapolis Police Chief Search Committee launched the hiring process for the city’s next top law enforcement official, unanimously approving a 12-week recruitment roadmap on June 22. The plan calls for the job posting to go live July 20 and final candidate recommendations to be submitted to the mayor by Sept. 14.

The committee also set the screening process: initial resume review, interviews, and scenario-based assessments to narrow the field to three finalists. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years of law enforcement experience. Candidate scoring will emphasize community policing, law and order, and modernization.

Two in‑person listening sessions will be held at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center and the Boys & Girls Club, with all materials translated into Spanish as part of the community engagement plan approved by the committee.
