Archdale City Council considers rezoning for event venue, neighborhood business

Archdale’s City Council met June 23 to hold public hearings on two rezoning requests and consider several administrative items, according to the meeting agenda. No minutes were available as of press time, so all items listed remain proposals that were under discussion.

Rezoning proposals

The council held a public hearing on a request to rezone property on US Hwy 311 from R-40 and B-2 to CD R-40 for use as an event venue. A second public hearing addressed a request to rezone 4913 Archdale Road from OI (Office-Institutional) to B-2 (General Business) for a neighborhood business.

Ordinance and administrative items

A public hearing was also held on a text amendment to the city’s solicitation ordinance (Chapter 5, Article X). The council considered transitioning the city’s property/casualty and workers’ compensation insurance to the N.C. League of Municipalities’ insurance pools (IRFFNC and NCIRMA), effective July 1, 2026. Two budget amendments, numbered 2026-8 and 2026-9, were also on the agenda. Additionally, the council was scheduled to authorize police staffing.
