Wildwood boards discuss historic preservation, Celebrate Wildwood; upcoming meetings to weigh housing, capital plan
Wildwood city boards held discussions over the past two weeks on historic preservation and the 2026 Celebrate Wildwood event, but no final votes or decisions have been published yet. Upcoming meetings will consider a 39-unit housing development, the city's first Historic Preservation Plan, and the next capital improvement budget.
Recent meetings
Historic Preservation Commission (June 25)
The commission discussed recommending two properties for the city's Historic Register: the Rosenbaum Barn at 3602 Allenton Road and the Horstmann Log Cabin at 4981 Fox Creek Road. Members also reviewed the final draft of the Wildwood Historic Preservation Plan and considered preservation incentives for the J.P. Connell House at 18410 St. Albans Road. An update on Route 66 Centennial Celebration planning was also on the agenda. Meeting minutes have not yet been published, so no final actions are recorded.
Wildwood Celebration Commission (July 1)
The commission discussed revenue sources, sponsorships, and parade components—including grand marshals—for the 2026 Celebrate Wildwood event. A scavenger hunt and promotional items for sale were also reviewed. Again, minutes are pending.
Upcoming meetings
Planning & Zoning Commission (July 6)
The commission will hold public hearings on several rezoning requests, including a proposal for 39 attached single-family dwellings (Route 66 Villas) at 16701 Manchester Road. Other items include rezoning for single-family homes at 17052 and 17058 Manchester Road, a telecommunications tower modification at the Marianist Retreat Center (4000 State Route 109), and a conditional use permit for a permanent electronic message center at Lafayette High School. The body will also review the final draft of the Wildwood Historic Preservation Plan.
Site Plan Subcommittee (July 6)
A separate subcommittee will review a preliminary plat for the Bendick Estates Subdivision, proposed by Whalen Custom Homes. The plan calls for 15 single-family homes on a 51-acre tract west of Christy Avenue, south of Manchester Road, with minimum 3-acre lots and private roadway improvements.
Administration / Public Works Committee (July 7)
The committee will take up a preliminary review of the FY 2027 Capital Improvement Plan and five-year plan, including project scoring and unfunded needs. Also on the agenda: review of designs to replace bridges #386 and #387 on Wild Horse Creek Road, a proposed code revision clarifying right-of-way maintenance responsibilities, an update on the Main Street extension to Eatherton Road, and an intergovernmental agreement with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for a streamgage monitoring station on the Pillman Creek bridge.
Board of Adjustment (July 16)
The board will hold a public hearing on two requests for exceptions to the city's Natural Resource Protection Standards. One request (B.A. 20-26) seeks to build an 85-foot fence within a 100% protected area at 274 Bountiful Pointe Circle. The other (B.A. 21-26) asks for a garage addition at 2300 Wildwood Forest Drive that would encroach on a protected area and its 25-foot setback.
