Licensing Board Approves 70 Motorcycle Week Vendors, TIF Panel Seeks $35k Park Fund Shift

The Licensing Board yesterday unanimously approved 70 vendors for Motorcycle Week, alongside multiple other event licenses and permits. Separately, the Downtown TIF Advisory Board agreed to ask the City Council to transfer $35,000 in landscaping money from Rotary Park to Stewart Park, while library trustees authorized up to $7,400 for semiquincentennial decorations.

Licensing and special events

The Licensing Board approved the following unanimously: 70 Motorcycle Week vendors; Fourth of July vendors Brad’s Concessions, NH Mini Donuts, Brick House Grill, and two Hibbert Enterprises operations; the Weirs Beach Bash event; an itinerant vendor license for Backyard Butchers, contingent on property-owner permission; a raffle license for the Opechee Garden Club; and a refund or fee rollover for Biker Nation. The board also approved entertainment and outdoor loudspeaker use for Mystic Meadows.

The Special Events Review Committee unanimously approved application SE2026-044 for a downtown car show at 609 Main St. on Aug. 14, subject to a revised traffic plan and coordination with Public Works, police, and the city manager’s office. The committee accepted minutes from its June 3 meeting and began gathering feedback for the Bike Week after-action report.

Parks and public spaces

The Downtown TIF Advisory Board reached consensus to request that the City Council redirect the $35,000 previously approved for Rotary Park landscaping to Stewart Park, so seasonal work can begin immediately. The board also voiced general support for a downtown mural beautification proposal, discussed a leaking roof at a storage building behind St. Joseph Church, and set a goal of issuing an RFP for Rotary Park lighting by Aug. 1.

The Board of Library Trustees unanimously approved up to $7,400 from the General Fund to decorate Gale Memorial Library for the Semiquincentennial Celebration. The board also approved a $350 portrait restoration evaluation fee, accepted secretary’s and treasurer’s reports, and approved May 21 minutes. A short-term rental ordinance discussion was tabled.

Appointments and awards

The Airport Appointive Agency interviewed two candidates and voted 9–0 to nominate John Leahy for an at‑large seat on the Laconia Airport Authority. His name will be forwarded to the full Authority.

The Robert A. Hamel Community Service Award committee agreed to seek public nominations, with advertising starting Aug. 1 and a deadline of Aug. 31. The award is expected to be presented at the Laconia Pumpkin Festival, and the committee will meet again in early August.

Master Plan and land-use boards

The Master Plan Steering Committee met June 25 to review the draft Laconia Master Plan outreach report and discuss land-use analysis. On June 30, several land-use boards — including the Historic District Commission, Heritage Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, Conservation Commission, and the Master Plan committee — held a joint public information session at the library to answer residents’ questions; no votes were taken.

The Conservation Commission was scheduled July 1 to review site plans and a drainage report for PB2026-053 on Belmont Road, discuss a revised Natural Resource Inventory, and receive updates on the Master Plan process.

Coming up

The Water Commission meets July 6 to discuss the Briarcrest Pumping Station, contamination at 1467 Lakeshore Road, the 2028–2033 capital improvement plan, and cybersecurity measures.
