Airport Commission accepts reports; planning board hears rezoning request

The Russellville Airport Advisory Commission handled routine business at its latest meeting, while the Historic District Commission discussed downtown guidelines and the Planning Commission took up a commercial rezoning request.

Airport Commission

The Airport Commission met on June 23 and accepted the previous meeting’s minutes and the manager’s financial report, both unanimously. The financial report included data on fuel sales, accounts receivable, hangar occupancy, and aircraft traffic. Commissioners received updates on the MCE project and the Air Race Classic, and discussed a proposal to host scout troops for aviation merit badge activities, but no formal action was taken. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.

Historic District Commission

The Historic District Commission convened the same evening, June 23, with several items on its agenda. Meeting minutes were not yet published as of this week. According to the agenda, the commission was scheduled to conduct a final review of the Downtown Russellville Historic District Guidelines alongside representatives of Post Oak Preservation Solutions. Members also planned to consider Certificates of Appropriateness for: a bronze statue titled “Jerry the Bulldog” at the Russellville Depot; reinstallation of an L-shaped arrow sign at 303 West Main Street; removal of a 20-foot exterior wall at 201 N. Commerce Avenue; a vinyl wrap for a traffic signal box; and a water station. Additional agenda items included a vote on a letter of approval for a Paul Bruhn Grant application and a vote on revised commission bylaws.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission met on July 2 for a public hearing on a rezoning request for 2304 SR-124. Samu General Market LLC, on behalf of property owner Y & O Russellville LLC, sought to change the zoning from residential (R-1) to commercial (C-2). The meeting agenda listed the case number as ZONE-0526-000771. Minutes were not available at press time, so the outcome of the vote has not been confirmed.
