Stockton council takes up $2M boat launch, audit panel reviews misconduct allegations

Council Audit Committee
Two meetings of the council’s Audit Committee took place last week. On June 22, members were briefed on the status of referrals sent to the state Attorney General, the District Attorney’s Political Corruption Unit and the grand jury regarding possible charter violations, abuse of authority and misuse of public funds. The committee also heard a presentation from internal city auditor UHY Advisors and an update from the Office of Violence Prevention on its budget, staffing and programs. A second session on June 25 again featured a presentation from UHY Advisors, with the committee authorized to develop recommendations for the full council.
Parks and Recreation Commission
The Parks and Recreation Commission met June 22 to approve minutes from its April 27 meeting and receive informational reports. No spending or policy votes were scheduled. Staff provided updates on parks, youth sports, mobile recreation, fireworks safety demonstrations and National Parks and Recreation Month. The commission also heard from representatives of the Stockton, Lincoln, Lodi and Manteca unified school districts and San Joaquin County Parks.

July 9 — Planning Commission
Commissioners will rule on whether a truck sales business at 2546 Turnpike Road qualifies as a legal nonconforming use. Staff recommends declaring the use voluntarily terminated and not re-establishable. An informational presentation on land use rules in Municipal Code Chapter 16.20 will also be given, with no action planned.
July 9 — Civil Service/Equal Employment Commission Concurrent
The commission will certify eligible candidate lists for Police Aide I, Police Aide II and Recreation Program Coordinator positions. It will also act on the reinstatement of Nicholas Fogal to regular police officer status.
