Cherry Hills Village Art Commission considers $10,000 calaveras display; Parks commission to elect leaders

During the past two weeks, Cherry Hills Village boards and commissions had one meeting with potential spending on the agenda and another that was cancelled. In the coming weeks, the Parks, Trails & Recreation Commission will elect its officers and discuss the 2027 work plan.

The Art Commission met June 29 to discuss and vote on several items, though minutes have not yet been published. The most consequential item was a proposal to recommend that City Council approve a $10,000 loan of eight painted calaveras (skulls) from curator Alexis Newton. The calaveras would be displayed in City Hall for two weeks in October 2026 as part of a Dia de los Muertos event. The commission also reviewed the 2026 event budget, which shows $16,000 allocated and $2,111 spent on an Artist Talk. The Quincy Farm Plein Air event was postponed to 2027 because of parking construction. The commission approved minutes from the April 27, 2026 meeting and began planning the 2027 work plan and an update to the artist directory.

The Board of Adjustment and Appeals meeting scheduled for July 2 was cancelled.
