Tallmadge boards consider East Avenue project increase, police hiring rules
The Tallmadge Board of Control was scheduled to vote on a $7,257.50 change order for the East Avenue Phase 1 road project at its June 26 meeting, one of several city government sessions held over the past two weeks. Agendas for the meetings, which also included the City Council, Community Improvement Corporation and Civil Service Commission, have been released, but official minutes have not yet been published.
City Council
At its June 25 regular meeting, the City Council agenda included second readings on three ordinances. Ordinance 2026-52 would direct the Civil Service Commission to adopt new hiring rules for police patrol officers. Ordinance 2026-55 would establish the count of non-collective bargaining employees by department and position. Ordinance 2026-54 would express the city’s intent to sell unneeded municipal vehicles and equipment. The council also planned to go into closed executive session to discuss pending litigation and personnel matters.
Board of Control
The Board of Control met June 26 with a brief agenda. The primary item was Change Order #2 to O.R. Colan Associates for the SUM-East Avenue Phase 1 project, increasing the contract by $7,257.50 to a total of $377,307.50 under Ordinance 2025-43. The board also expected to adopt the minutes from its May 29 meeting.
Community Improvement Corporation
Tallmadge Grow, Inc., the city’s Community Improvement Corporation, convened on June 30. The agenda called for approval of the minutes from the January 26 meeting, a review of financial statements, and a discussion of a new CIC marketing proposal. No action beyond the discussion and financial review was detailed.
Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission met July 1 to review Ordinance 2026-55, which sets the number of non-collective bargaining employees for each department and position. The review is a direct follow-up to the ordinance that appeared before City Council the previous week.
