Hi — I'm Jacob, and I build and run MyTown by myself.
Almost every decision that actually touches your day gets made at a meeting that basically no one watches: what gets built next door, how high your water bill climbs, whether the police budget grows, which books stay in the school library. The local newspapers that used to sit through those city-council, county-board, and school-board meetings have mostly vanished — and the records that remain are scattered across dozens of clunky government portals, buried in 200-page PDFs written in procedural jargon.
I wanted to just know what my local government was doing without being a policy wonk with a free afternoon. So I built this: MyTown pulls the official agendas and minutes straight from the systems cities already publish through, turns them into plain English, and always links back to the primary document so you can check it yourself. It covers thousands of jurisdictions, it's free, and the whole dataset is open.
