Mount Pleasant committees set to weigh infrastructure contracts, zoning changes, and subdivision moratorium
Mount Pleasant's committees of council convene July 6 for a packed slate of meetings covering infrastructure contract awards, annexation and zoning requests, and a potential extension of a moratorium on major subdivisions in historic districts.
Because minutes have not yet been published for the town's late-June meetings, outcomes from those sessions — including Design Review Board votes on the Shem Creek Boat Landing expansion and a Board of Zoning Appeals variance at Bridge Point Circle — are not yet confirmed in the public record.
What's on the July 6 agenda
The Bids & Purchases Committee is scheduled to consider awarding several infrastructure contracts: design work for intersection improvements at Venning Rd and Hungry Neck Blvd, construction of an inlet conversion at Ferry Street and Pitt Street, and replacement of a stormwater pipe at Queens Court. The committee will also review a change order for drainage improvements in the Dovre and Alhambra basins.
The Finance Committee will consider a lease renewal for the Visitor Center and Sweetgrass Pavilion.
The Planning Committee will review three annexation and zoning requests: 2377 North Highway 17 (proposed Office Professional District-1 within the Sweetgrass Basket Overlay District), 1465 Stuart Engals Boulevard (proposed Areawide Business District), and a modification of income limits for Gregorie Ferry Towns Attainable Housing. The committee will also discuss extending a moratorium on major subdivision applications in Charleston County Historic Districts and review the town's noise ordinance regarding construction hours.
A special town council meeting is scheduled the same day, including an executive session on legal advice related to Charleston County Highway 41 improvements. Municipal judges are scheduled to be sworn in.
The Flood Resilience Committee will continue reviewing the Green Commission's 2025 Report of Accomplishments — a discussion item with no votes expected.
The Public Services Committee will receive a presentation on the newly completed Public Services Operations Center and Administrative Building, along with FY2026 quarterly project updates and the upcoming project schedule. Employee years of service will be recognized. This is primarily an informational session.
Late June meetings: agendas on file, outcomes pending
Four town bodies met or were scheduled to meet between June 24 and July 1. Minutes have not been published for any of them.
The Design Review Board met June 24 to conduct a preliminary review of the Shem Creek Boat Landing Expansion, take final review votes on Everbrook Academy at 1350 Old Georgetown Rd and Tidewater Vet Clinic at 1993 Riviera Dr, and consider a deferral request for the Ira Rd Restaurant at 1434 Ira Rd. The Seafair Hotel extension was noted as approved under correspondence.
The Tree Task Force met June 25 to continue reviewing proposed changes to tree protection zoning ordinances for single-family residential areas, discuss a draft final report and recommendations, and review its 2026 work plan. Public comment was accepted.
The Board of Zoning Appeals met June 29 to hear a variance request for 843 Bridge Point Circle — seeking a 10-foot rear setback instead of the required 25 feet, and a 10-foot critical area buffer instead of the required 20-foot minimum and 35-foot average. The agenda also listed an approved extension of vested rights for 847 O'Sullivan Drive (Case V-31-24) and a withdrawn subdivision request for 1363 Majore St and 835 Erckmann St (Case V-15-24).
The Culture, Arts & Pride Commission meeting scheduled for July 1 was cancelled due to lack of business and no quorum.
