Littleton Select Board approves $45,000 parking enforcement vehicle; zoning board denies subdivision variance

The Littleton Select Board authorized up to $45,000 for a new parking enforcement vehicle and appointed a new member to the Littleton Water & Light Commission at its June 22 meeting. The same week, the Zoning Board of Adjustment denied a request to subdivide a portion of a 6.6-acre equestrian property on St. Johnsbury Road.

Select Board: Parking vehicle, appointments, and policies

The Select Board voted 4-0 to approve the purchase of a new parking enforcement vehicle, with the cost not to exceed $45,000. The expenditure will be funded from parking meter fund revenues rather than the general budget.

The Board also voted 4-0 to appoint BG Frazier to the Littleton Water & Light Commission, filling a vacant seat. The term runs through April 2027.

In other business, the Board adopted a revised Agenda and Meeting Procedures Policy on a 4-0 vote. Members also approved the June 8 regular meeting minutes and the June 8 non-public meeting minutes, each by 4-0 votes. The Board set a process to fill a vacant Select Board seat and reviewed upcoming capital improvement projects; those items were discussed but not voted on.

Zoning Board: Subdivision variance denied

On June 23, the Zoning Board of Adjustment voted 5-0 to deny a variance request to subdivide a 2-acre lot from a 6.6-acre equestrian property at 1227 St. Johnsbury Road.

According to the board's findings, the applicant did not demonstrate unnecessary hardship. The board noted other available options, including lot line adjustments or pasture-sharing agreements, that did not require a variance.

The board also held its officer elections, unanimously re-electing Mark Wright as Chair and Zach Hawkins as Vice Chair.

Why it matters

The $45,000 parking enforcement vehicle purchase is paid from parking meter revenues, meaning the cost does not draw on property tax funds. The appointment to the Littleton Water & Light Commission fills a vacancy on the body that oversees the town's municipal electric and water utility. The zoning denial keeps the 6.6-acre property at 1227 St. Johnsbury Road intact under current lot requirements.
