Since fall 2020, the Board of Education and Superintendent have been working to implement the Student Outcome Focused Governance (SOFG) approach. The transition to this approach has included participation in training by board members and staff members and coaching provided by staff from the Council of Great City Schools. The early transition to Student Outcome Focused Governance included several milestones, such as the development of a board handbook and set of board bylaws, transition to a consent calendar for standing business items, the development of Board Goals and Guardrails, and the initial use of the board self-evaluation tool.

President Craighead introduced aj Crabill, school board coach with the Council of the Great City Schools, and stated that he had been invited to help facilitate the session to rededicate the Board's efforts to a student outcome focused governance.
Mr. Crabill added that their work is centered around supporting school boards that want to be more intensely focused on improving student outcomes. A discussion was held as to the areas where the board would like to grow, what they believe would make a difference and how to get there. Since the board goals have already been set, the work now is to mold the different aspects of the organization and the way we function as a board to be in alignment with the priorities established, and to ensure that the community's vision and the board goals drive the work of the school system. President Craighead announced that the Board took the following actions:
On Item 3.1, the Board voted 5-0 to approve the readmission of student #2822.
On Item 3.2, the Board voted 5-0 to approve the release of one classified employee and voted 5-0 to approve a resignation agreement for a certificated employee.

Board of Education to review personnel reports and superintendent evaluation
The Long Beach Unified School District Board of Education will meet to discuss personnel appointments and retirements. The board is also scheduled to conduct a closed session regarding the performance evaluation of the Superintendent of Schools.
