Press Releases Gulf Breeze Identifies Six Factors That Led to Sewer-Cross-Connection
The City of Gulf Breeze submitted a report to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection about an accidental cross-connection discovered and repaired on October 18 between a new home's sewer line and a Midway Water System water main. The city concluded a private contractor, Brown Construction, bore primary responsibility for connecting the sewer line before the city could mark its sewer line. As a result, Gulf Breeze has ended the practice of letting contractors tap into its water and sewer mains, requiring only authorized Gulf Breeze Regional Water System employees to make those connections. Sampling at roughly 400 potentially impacted properties has all come back negative for E. coli associated with wastewater.
