Council to appoint two new members in lieu of election

The Brawley City Council will consider appointing Eric Montoya Reyes and Clyde Richard Edgar Jr. to fill two vacant council seats instead of holding an election, as permitted by California Elections Code § 10229. This is the only regular business item on the agenda. The appointment would save an estimated $49,700 in election costs.

City Council Special Meeting

Council to appoint two new members in lieu of election

The Brawley City Council will consider a resolution to appoint Eric Montoya Reyes and Clyde Richard Edgar Jr. to fill two council seats, avoiding a November election for the uncontested race. The appointment is allowed under California Elections Code § 10229 because only two candidates filed for the two open seats. If approved, the city would save most of its $50,000 election budget, paying only a $300 county fee.
