Council to vote on ordinance requiring safe storage of firearms in residences

The Lafayette City Council will consider adopting Ordinance 685, which adds a new article to the municipal code requiring safe storage of firearms in residences. The council will also discuss extending an Economic Development Manager contract for $180,000 using ARPA funds, and consider joining the California Municipal Finance Authority for creation of community facilities districts. The meeting includes closed session on labor negotiations with the Association of Lafayette Employees and unrepresented employees.

Council to discuss Housing Element Update with up to 3,000 new units

The city council will hold a public hearing on the 6th cycle Housing Element Update, which must accommodate a Regional Housing Needs Allocation of 2,114 units (with a buffer up to approximately 3,000) between 2023 and 2031. They will also consider introducing Ordinance 685 on storage of firearms and several zoning text amendments related to downtown design and flood damage prevention. The council will adopt the 2023-24 legislative platform and authorize a $2,000 transfer for membership dues to Sustainable Contra Costa.
