CITY OF GRACEVILLE SPECIAL MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL June 29, 2026 City Hall OPEN MEETING; Mayor Jensen opened the special meeting at 7:00 PM. Members present were Tyler Buller, Dean Jensen, Michelle Backer, Chad Hoppe. Clerks Scott Bauer and Kara McNally were present, as well as Chad Zimmel. The special meeting was called to order at 7 PM. Bids were opened from Bituminous Paving Inc and Jim Riley Construction for road work throughout the City. Totals were as follows: Jim Riley Construction : $240,431 Bituminous Paving Inc : $378,000 Discussion was held on most important projects out of the 5 identified on the bids, as well as discussion also held on other areas needed in the near future. Zimmel to inquire on cost savings to extend Project #3 versus doing a separate project in the future. M/S/C/ Backer-Hoppe to approve bid for all 5 projects with Jim Riley Construction. All in favor M/S/C Backer-Hoppe to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 PM

Lauri Ortega has retired and Rachelle Golde has been selected as the new PLS executive director • Grace Village: There are 3 empty apartments at Grace Village at this time. The Expo was held on May 9th along with Grillin for Grace Village. • Maintenance report. City maintenance has been doing some crack filling in the streets. A company did an inspection on the water tower with a ROV (small submarine), there will be a report sent but things looked good so far. Maintenance will be doing some crack filling in town in the next week or so. We had a couple of applicants for part time maintenance mowing position. M/S/C to hire Blake Bohlen for the summer. Our 2000 Chevrolet pickup will be sold on sealed bids. M/S/C to purchase a 2024 utility cart for $11,000.00 from Murrays Garage. This will work nicely for our part time maintenance, spraying in the alleys, etc. • Grace Village: The Expo is scheduled for May 9th. We will serve burgers and hot dogs that …

The ambulance was called out for 131 runs in 2025, up from 80 last year. Reimbursements only pay for about 1/3 of what it costs to operate the service, which was $174,540.00 in 2025. We collect about 85,000.00 after write offs and insurance discounts. The ambulance service relies on donations, grants and fund transfers to survive. The squad has been training each month with Ridgewater College for their mandated refresher course.
