CITY OF SUMPTER WORKSHOP JULY 09, 2026 9:30 AM CALL TO ORDER: 9:35 AM MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE Mayor Linda Wise, Councilors Marsha Demaris, Darold Smith and Charlie Briscoe VISITORS Jon Patterson, Rebecca Patterson 1L 1L Event Ground Contract: The council discussed the need to have a different contract/agreement for The Event Grounds for people who want to hold minor community events such as BBQ, music events or anything that is too large for Volunteer Park. The council suggested revisions to the existing contract for Volunteer Park to fit the needs at The Event Grounds. Revisions will be made and the City Council will revisit the contract/agreement for final approval. Flea Market Vendors Fees: The council discussed the City Ordinance that transient merchants must pay a vendor fee. It doesn’t matter if they are on private or city property. If the flea markets are being contracted by a private entity, they are not currently collecting transient vendor fees from the vendors. The council discussed whether the City should reinforce the ordinance to collect vendor fees from all flea markets. The council also discussed the option of doing a per event or an annual vendor fee as an option for vendors to come back for all flea markets for the year. The council further discussed whether the city needs to enforce the ordinance or the ordinance needs to be revised and amended.
