The Oak Ridge Parks & Recreation Advisory Board will meet in person and via Zoom to consider approving additional amenities at the Oak Ridge Lions Club's Tranquility Garden. ✓ Decided: Special Events Committee approves 2026/2027 budget and event calendar

Meeting Minutes – In Person
March 19, 2026 @ 10am
Attendees: Claudia Whittaker, Courtenay Harton, Ashley Royal, Brock
Dunigan, Caroline Ruch, Brent Carrickhoff and Patti Dmuchowski
Brent opened the meeting at 10:42.
1. Patti moved to approve the minutes from February 26, 2026 with correction of the
meeting date, Brent 2nd, and the motion passed.
2. Veterans Honor Green - Status Update – Patti
a. The order for the fourth set of pavers has been submitted. We hope to get
delivery at the end of April with installation by P&R by Memorial Day.
There are some pavers that need to be placed by relatives.
b. The annual paver request procedure was approved at the last meeting.
Genevieve will post highlights from the procedure on the website and the
OR Facebook page. Orders need to be in by August 1 and ordered by
Sept 1 for installation by P&R for Veterans Day.
c. Interpretive panels – Patti & Ann
i. Need to decide on a plan to go forward. Consensus was to focus
on the 6 branches and their historic milestones. A professional
writer will be needed. We will also review the ORES history
curriculum.
ii. All agreed that we need to discuss the project with the local
veterans for input. There was a recommendation to speak with the
Mt. Bethel Veterans that meet monthly at the church on Haw River.
iii. After selecting a plan, present it to the Town Council for their input.
iv. Ann discussed the project with Mark at Revington …

✓ Decided: Special Events Committee approves annual paver request procedure
The Oak Ridge Special Events Committee approved the annual paver request procedure for the Veterans Honor Green, with Patti coordinating to post it on the town website. The committee also voted to change its monthly meetings to the daytime on the third Thursday at 10am. The 2026 special events calendar was reviewed, and the LUN date was moved to November 21, 2026.

1. Brent opened the meeting at 10:05.
1. Patti moved to approve the minutes from January 15, 2026; Rose seconded, and
the motion passed.
2. Veterans Honor Green - Status Update – Patti
a. The order for the fourth paver has been submitted. We hope to get
delivery at the end of April.
b. Amy, Brent, and Patti examined all submitted paver request forms and
addressed any issues that arose.
c. The Committee approved the annual paver request procedure, with Patti
making the motion to approve and Rose seconding. Patti will coordinate
with Genevieve to post it on the town website. Brock requested to change
the submit date to August and not September to give more time for
installation.
d. Sandra and Patti reconciled the Veterans funds. The remaining funds will
be used for the panels.
e. The Committee discussed Ben Walraven’s request for additional Veterans
recognition, i.e., service animals. The group will discuss it at a later date
once the panels are completed.
