At 9:00 a.m., Commissioner Mordhorst declared the Tuesday meeting of the Polk County Board of Commissioners in session and led the Board and attending audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, Mr. Whitaker talked about their plans to improve safety at Roger Road and explained how they plan to do that with the project beginning its design phases this year. FLY SALEM Brent DeHart and Tim Hay were present to request funding from the Board of Commissioners for the Salem Airport. Commissioner Pope asked them to give an update before the Commissioner asked their questions. Mr. DeHart provided background information on where they are at with securing another airline after Avelo left the Salem Airport. Next, Mr. DeHart talked about the amount of funding different airlines are saying they need in order to step in and take over where Avelo left off. Mr. Hay shared a personal experience of how he recently booked a flight out of Eugene to Arizona and that it was cheaper than going to PDX and he agrees that there is a need for an airport in Salem.
