First of all, we'll go through this as quickly as we can, to leave as much time as possible for questions and comments. i believe this is a group evident. The mayor formed this committee after the winter storm, and it became named the committee on emergency preparedness. I think it was the right thing to do, because I've been here with the city since '73 and it was obviously something I'd never seen. And probably even older people than me, which they're not me, have seen. So I think what we need to do is recognize who w …

general fund. We presented the five-year forecast, financial forecast to the city council just over a month ago on MAY 12th. We have received some information regarding revenues that have influenced the year-end estimate since that time that we will review with you shortly. The sales tax continues to perform much better than expected. We've seen that for most of the year. Notably, the hotel occupancy tax collections have improved just in the last few months, and both of those put us in much better position in both of those funds as we look at the outlook for the remainder of the year. While the economy continues -- or appears to be improving rapidly, the pace of that recovery still remains very much uncertain, so we will continue to look at these revenue sources throughout the budget process as new information comes to light. Last month at the forecast, we expected a very modest revenue surplus bolstered by the increased sales tax. After receiving updated information, we're now projecting a much higher collections in sales taxes and now we are now expecting sales taxes to be $22.7 million above the original adopted budget of 295 million at that time. We've also seen increased payments recently from cps, just in the last couple of months; therefore, we've revised our estimate in that category to $4.4 million above the adopted budget. So, therefore, even with declines in other areas, other revenues in the general fund, we're projecting to be $18.4 million above the adopted budg …

[Applause] Hopefully everyone's gotten a chance to get oriented in the room. We'll account for any challenges with getting situated or the next few weeks, but needless to say, the staff, the teams working on this building deserve a huge congratulations, did a tremendous job. It was well worth the wait. We appreciate the attention to detail and certainly the bringing back to life some of the historic features of this people's house that have been hidden for so long. So I'm glad that this council is able to see it and be here as well before we go on to a summer break. We have one item today on our city council b session, and so let me turn it over now to city manager erik walsh. Oh, I'm sorry. Yes. Let's do the roll call. So homer and his parks team is here today. It is good to talk about this topic and looking forward to an eventful summer that we can do safely and continue to work with the community. We have one item on the agenda today, and so let me hand it over to city manager erik walsh. >> Walsh: thank you, mayor, good afternoon, mayor and council. This afternoon be vero soto and the team will brief you on the proposed ordinance on a policy to expand housing opportunities for housing voucher holders. This was the item that was on the agenda last week that we -- that the mayor asked bepulled and designated for today's special meeting. The item has -- and vero will go through the presentation, she didn't get a chance to do that last week, but she'll walk through the different steps and places that they have coordinated with. We also joined by the chief operating officer from the housing authority, brandy perez is on the call to address any technical questions about the voucher program or the housing authority, and just to remind the council that the source of income protection has emerged as one of the steps that the city can take through our strategic housing implementation plan and our for everyone home antidisplacement initiatives. Staff is also going to present to you this afternoon for your consideration …

City Council A Session

bring forward to the council. We are now roughly at the halfway point through the legislature. Many things will begin to start picking up speed as we go through the remaining part of the session. There are three or four more weeks of heavy committee activity and action will move to the house and senate floors. The team has certainly continued their efforts to advocate for and against legislation. We'll hear from jeff first and he'll hand it off to me. I'll give some opening remarks on ana's piece and then go to ana. Jeff. >> okay. Thanks, erik. I assume my mic is working. A committee substitute bill was floated just hours before the hearing. Really didn't change the central purpose of the bill. again, just to reiterate, what the bill does is say that a city or county May not spend any public dollars to seek -- to influence indirectly or directly legislation pending before the legislature. And specifically what that means is that we wouldn't be able to hire contract lobbyists. We wouldn't be able to contribute to any trade association that uses a lobbyist. And staff, like myself, if we spend more than 26 hours per quarter at the legislature, we would not be able to do that either …
