The committee heard a presentation from Karen Riordan and her team regarding their 2023 goals and a desire to work more closely with the Town. The team noted an inability to update tourism website information following the departure of the Public Information Officer.

Town Council

The Surfside Beach Town Council will hold a regular meeting with discussions on parking recommendations and a second reading of an ordinance amending supplemental district regulations. The council will also receive updates on the comprehensive plan, Festival of Arts and Crafts, and Waccamaw Market Cooperative, and may enter executive session to discuss the town administrator's employment and lease negotiations.

The Town Council approved raising hourly parking fees at the Pier lot and transitioning all town lots to mobile payment systems. Council also approved an amendment to height regulations in the code of ordinances and a new committee appointment.

Community Garden Committee

The Community Garden Committee will assign 2023 garden plots, verify residency, and wait-list any remaining applicants. The committee will also hold elections for officers, plan first-quarter 2023 events like Dirt Day and a Master Gardeners forum, and discuss creating a newsletter and enforcing year-round plot use.

The committee verified that all 2023 applicants reside within town limits and assigned plots to returning and new gardeners. The committee also scheduled a garden meeting for March 11 and postponed officer elections.

Pier Committee

The Surfside Beach Pier Committee is meeting to discuss several pier-related topics, including the town store, flagpoles, observation deck, and pier power, as well as the status of negotiations on buildings B and D. They will also review the pier logo contest, Chamber of Commerce meeting results, and progress on pier plaques and parking pavers. The committee will vote on electing 2023 officers.

Parking Committee

The Surfside Beach Parking Committee will discuss and potentially act on several parking-related items, including a proposed fee increase for the Pier parking lot, the use of license plate readers instead of parking decals, and a transition to Text to Park exclusively. They will also discuss a resort bus usage fee, employee parking, and parking sign placement.

Town Council

The Town Council will discuss parking recommendations and a memorandum of understanding with federal agencies. The meeting also includes a first reading of an ordinance to amend supplemental district regulations.

Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement for the police department to assist HSI with trafficking investigations and increased the limit of non-resident parking stickers to 150. Business Committee

The Surfside Beach Business Committee is meeting to discuss town processes for business permitting with Sabrina Adair, plan how to advance committee work between meetings, and consider changing its charter from nine to seven members. The agenda also includes a review of a joint Pier Committee/Business Committee workshop.

The committee discussed ways to prevent business owners from signing leases for improperly zoned properties. Members agreed to contact the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to help plan and fund a Business Forum. No formal votes were taken as the approval of prior minutes was tabled due to a lack of quorum.

Pier Committee
