Council met in Regular Session with Mayor Travis Shelman and the following

Appointment
Renea Reichenbach, Ricke Stauffer and Logan Hesser submitted letters of
interest to fill a vacancy (of Caylon DeVaul council seat), and each
highlighted why they want to serve on the council. Miller moved and Roe
2nd a motion to appoint Logan Hesser to fill the term until next election.
4 ayes. Motion carried. City Clerk then gave the Oath of Office to Logan
Hesser to begin serving immediately.

Mayor Shelman opened the public hearing at 7:40 pm on Proposed Zoning

Grimm moved and Rohe 2nd a motion to approve the minutes of January 7,
2026, renew two $50,000 CDs at Pilot Grove Savings Bank for 11 months at
3.85%, and the following list of bills for payments. 5 ayes. Motion
declared carried.

Council approves 2025 wages, appointments, and firefighter pay change
The Wayland City Council approved the consent agenda including 2025 calendar year wages totaling $389,038.91 and an IRS mileage rate of $0.725. The council also approved mayor appointments for 2026-2027, including department head assignments and a new mayor pro-tem. Three resolutions were passed: one changing the compensation payment schedule for volunteer firefighters from per-incident to yearly for the chief and assistant chief, and two depository resolutions with Pilot Grove Savings Bank and White State Bank.
