[Calling roll] >> Today we are here to discuss the Yonkers Joint Wastewater Treatment plant power failure and resultant sewage spill that impacted our community that has raised so many questions. We are joined today by the Department of Environmental Facilities Commissioner Vincent Kopicki. First deputy commissioner Louis Vetrone as well as Peter (Indistinct). Emily Saltzman is also here. You're welcome to join us at the table. So. Would you like to start with the presentation then we can get a few questions? >> Sure. Vincent Kopicki, Commissioner DEF. >> I think the best way to start would be to give a little bit of background about how the treatment plant works. A lot of you have been to the plant. If you haven't please let me know. We'd love to give you a tour of the facility. So the plant treats sewage from approximately 500 thousand residents of Westchester County and just to give you an idea of how much we process, for 2025 we processed a little under 24 billion gallons. So far this year, a little over 12 billion gallons. The way the treatment plant works is (Indistinct) comes in. The first thing it hits is it hits the screens and that is where it takes out all the heavy pieces. There is bar screens and scrapers that pull it up and we take that off site. From there, and just so you know, during this event, those were always operational. So we have emergency generators just for the screens so those continue to operate throughout the event. After that it goes to primer se …
