p.m. at the Longwood Community Building, 200 West Warren Avenue. This month’s feature is
Hocus Pocus.

The City of Longwood will host City Government Day at Longwood Elementary School on
Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event will feature a display of
vehicles, trucks, and equipment from the Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments, providing
students with an opportunity to interact with City staff and learn more about municipal
services.

The City of Longwood will host “Truck or Treat” on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 3:00 p.m.
until 6:00 p.m., at Reiter Park, 311 Warren Avenue. There will be trick or treating, activities for
children and a costume contest. This is a free event.
D.
The Longwood Historic Society will host its annual “Monster Dash 5K” on Saturday, October 31,
2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Historic District of Longwood located off Church
Avenue. All proceeds will go to benefit historic preservation in Longwood. Prizes will be
awarded for the best Halloween costumes. You can register online at

Understanding the Proposed Solid Waste Assessment: A Community Q&A Forum
Solid Waste Assessment Presentation and Question-and-Answer Session
Mr. Watts introduced City staff and representatives from Raftelis and explained that the purpose
of the meeting was to provide information and answer residents’ questions regarding the
proposed non-ad valorem solid waste assessment. He clarified that no formal action would be
taken during the meeting and that the City Commission would consider the assessment at a public
hearing on September 10, 2026.
Thierry Boveri, Raftelis, presented the Solid Waste Assessment Study. He explained that the City
contracts with Waste Pro to provide residential garbage collection services, while the City
currently bills customers monthly. The proposal would change the collection method by removing
the solid waste charge from the monthly utility bill and placing an annual non-ad valorem
assessment on the property tax bill. The level of collection service would not change.
Mr. Boveri reviewed the primary considerations supporting the proposed change, including
approximately five to seven percent in uncollected monthly charges, administrative billing costs,
and a contractual provision reducing Waste Pro’s charge by approximately $2.00 per account per
month if the assessment method is implemented. He explained tha …

✓ Decidido: Commission advances solid waste assessment, annexation policy change
The Longwood City Commission approved several items, including a resolution to move residential solid waste billing to property tax bills (3-2), and voted to bring forward a resolution to revise or rescind a 2023 policy that would have forced denial of a 52-acre annexation application (3-2). The commission also approved a 4% raise for the City Clerk, waived her annual evaluation, and approved a $253,515.73 sidewalk repair contract. All other agenda items were approved unanimously.

Member Jose congratulated staff on another successful Rock, Freedom and Fireworks
event. He advised that the only negative comments he observed on social media concerned
reports of a fire during the fireworks display.
Mr. Capizzi explained that a small fire involving the fireworks cakes is not uncommon and
remained contained throughout the event. Headvisedthat this year's display utilized two
bargesrather than a bargeand boardwalk configuration, makingthe fire more visible to
attendees. He noted that the situation was quickly controlled and posedno safety concern.
Hefurther advisedthat local newsstations had contacted the city after seeingsocialmedia
posts, but the incident was quickly resolved after speaking to the Fire Marshal.

B. The Annual “Father and Daughter” Dance will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 7:00
p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Longwood Community Building, 200 West Warren Avenue.
C. The City of Longwood will host a Juneteenth celebration on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 5:00
p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Longwood Community Building, 200 West Warren Avenue.
D. The City of Longwood will host its Rock, Freedom, and Fireworks event on Saturday, June 27,
2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Reiter Park, 311 West Warren Avenue. There will be live
music, food trucks, and a firework show beginning around 9:00 p.m. Parking will be available in
the parking lot of the Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital and at the Longwood SunRail
Station. This is a free event.
E. The “Downtown Longwood Cruise-In” Car Show will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from
5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Historic District of Longwood, located off Church Avenue.
