Arlington meeting roundup: Most July sessions agenda-only; Town Day planning underway
Most Arlington town meetings held over the past two weeks were agenda-only sessions whose minutes have not yet been published, meaning no formal decisions are on the record yet. The one meeting with published minutes — the Envision Arlington Standing Committee on July 20 — was procedural and planning-focused, with no formal votes taken.
Envision Arlington Standing Committee (July 20)
The committee discussed plans for the September 19, 2026 Town Day, including a $100 booth fee that limits the group to two booths. Members planned a rotating heat map display with hourly rotation and passer-by voting, plus a live survey game using Mentimeter and an iPad. The second edition of the committee's survey results is scheduled to be published mid-September, before Town Day.
No formal votes or approvals were recorded. Minutes from June 10, 2025 were not approved due to lack of quorum. Membership changes were noted: Ammarah Rehman joined, Johanna Meyers continues, Juli Brazile needs reappointment, Jagat Adhiyam is resigning, and Weslie Etienne Pierre was not reappointed. Next meetings are set for August 5 and September 9.
Redevelopment Board (July 20)
The Arlington Redevelopment Board scheduled three public hearings on development applications: a continued special permit hearing for 26 Dudley Street (Docket 3879, continued from June 1, 2026), a new special permit hearing for 635 Mass Ave (Docket 3907), and a site plan review hearing for 12 Lockeland Ave (Docket 3909). The board also planned to review meeting minutes from June 15 and July 6, 2026. No decisions were to be made on Open Forum items. Minutes are not yet published.
Conservation Commission (July 23)
The Conservation Commission scheduled public hearings on three Notices of Intent for construction affecting protected resource areas: a single-family home at 0 Reed Street affecting a Buffer Zone and Adjacent Upland Resource Area; an addition and carport at 91 Sunnyside Avenue affecting the Buffer Zone, Flooding area, and Riverfront Area of Alewife Brook; and demolition and commercial building addition at 26 Dudley Street affecting the Riverfront Area of Mill Brook. The commission also planned to discuss the Symmes Conservation Restriction and a request for a Certificate of Compliance at 5-7 Mystic Lake Drive (DEP #091-0352). Minutes are not yet published.
Select Board (July 27)
The Select Board agenda included a presentation on MWRA Combined Sewer Overflows, a discussion and potential vote on a draft host community agreement with Bud's Goods, a tree hearing at Veterans Memorial Park, a cable license renewal process, and design of the Massachusetts Avenue crossing at Library Way. Minutes are not yet published, so the outcome of the potential vote is not on the record.
School Committee (July 27)
The Arlington School Committee agenda listed discussion and possible approval of an LPN position, an absence incentive recommendation for AEA-A and AEA-D units, and a split dual-licensed educator position (.4 ML/.6 Special Education). The consent agenda included Warrant #26320, dated June 30, 2026, in the amount of $766,418.55. Minutes are not yet published.
