Augusta County roundup: Parks board approves minutes; supervisors to weigh bonus, tax referendum
The Augusta County Parks and Recreation Commission approved its May minutes as written (6-0) at its Aug. 19 meeting, the only formal decision recorded in the past two weeks. Two other county bodies met but have not yet published minutes, leaving their agenda items pending. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to hold a staff briefing Aug. 24 to discuss several items, including a courthouse contract extension and a property tax relief rate.
Parks & Recreation Commission
The commission voted 6-0 to approve the May minutes. The director's report included updates that the county has no plans to continue with Athletes Global Corporation and that no direct revenue was received from Clymore Elementary's event at Natural Chimneys Park. No other substantive decisions were made; the remaining items were informational.
Planning Commission (Aug. 11)
The Planning Commission held a public hearing on two land-use requests. The first was a request to withdraw 90.113 acres (TMP 037 92) at 1655 Knightly Mill Road from the Middle River Agricultural and Forestal District. The second was a request to rezone 6.06 acres (TMP 027 122A) east of Lee Highway (Route 11) in Mount Sidney from General Business to General Industrial with proffers. The commission also considered approving minutes from its July 14 meeting. Minutes from this session have not yet been published, so no decisions are recorded.
Board of Supervisors (Aug. 12)
The Board of Supervisors held a public hearing on an ordinance for employee bonuses and considered a resolution to place a school construction sales tax referendum on the ballot. The board also discussed a rezoning request for 6.928 acres at 38 Lyndale Lane in Lyndhurst (TMP 076 54B) from Single Family Residential-15 to Rural Residential; the Planning Commission has recommended denial. Other agenda items included an Agriculture Crop Press Study and a possible AFID planning grant application, as well as consideration of ownership of portraits from the 1901 Augusta County Circuit Courthouse. Minutes have not yet been published.

The Board of Supervisors will hold a staff briefing on Aug. 24. Items for discussion include a contract amendment for the Moseley courthouse contract with $17,000 in funding, a resolution setting the Personal Property Tax Relief Act rate, a TAP application for a sidewalk extension on Quicks Mill Road from US11 to Charlottes Court, a sewer easement for C&C Tire at 2620 Stuarts Draft Highway, and a rezoning of 6.06 acres in Mount Sidney from General Business to General Industrial. The meeting is a staff briefing, so most items are for discussion rather than final action.
