Groom ISD board weighs budget, tax rate at Aug. 17 meetings
The Groom Independent School District board held a public hearing and two regular meetings on Aug. 17, 2026, with the agenda to adopt the 2026-27 budget and set the property tax rate. As of Aug. 24, minutes have not been published, so the outcomes of any votes are not yet known.
Budget and tax rate
The regular meeting immediately following the public hearing included adopting the 2026-2027 budget and setting the 2026-2027 tax rate. The agenda also noted a possible order for a voter-approval tax rate election on Nov. 3, 2026, if the rate exceeds the state limit. The board was also to approve July expenditures reports and approve UIL fees of $2,500.
The public hearing, held earlier, was for deliberation and action to adopt the budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. No other substantive items were listed on that agenda.

At the earlier regular meeting, the board was to receive a construction update, hear reports from the principal and superintendent, including an enrollment and attendance update, and review the superintendent's annual evaluation documents. The agenda also included considering the time and date of the next meeting. Routine items such as prayer, call to order, public comments, and approval of previous minutes were listed as well.
The budget and tax rate determine the district's spending and the property tax burden for residents. The voter-approval tax rate election, if ordered, would be put to voters in November.
