Hallsville ISD board weighs 2026-27 budget, tax rate; no votes taken yet
The Hallsville ISD Board of Trustees met twice in the past week to review the proposed 2026-27 budget and tax rate, but no decisions have been recorded. All three meetings — a budget workshop on Aug. 14 and a regular meeting and public hearing on Aug. 17 — were held on agenda items only, and minutes have not yet been published.
Budget and tax rate under review
The board's Aug. 14 special meeting and budget workshop included a review of the proposed 2026-2027 budget and consideration of approving the 2026-2027 compensation plan. The agenda also included an order authorizing the defeasance and redemption of a portion of Hallsville ISD's Unlimited Tax School Building and Refunding Bonds, Series 2020.
At the regular meeting on Aug. 17, the board was scheduled to consider approving the 2026-2027 budget, an interest and sinking (I&S) tax rate above the minimum, and the ordinance setting maintenance and operations (M&O) and I&S taxes. The agenda also listed approval of 2026-2027 student meal prices, contracts and vendors exceeding $50,000, and a covered practice facility plan.
Public hearing held on budget and tax rate
Also on Aug. 17, the board held a public hearing and special meeting to discuss the proposed budget and tax rate. The agenda included presentations by Mary Brown on both the budget and the tax rate, followed by public comments. No votes or decisions were listed on that agenda.
No decisions yet
Because the minutes from these meetings have not been published, no vote tallies or final dollar amounts are available. The items listed remain proposals under consideration. The board has not yet formally adopted the budget, tax rate, compensation plan, or other measures.
