Cumby Collegiate ISD board considers budget, tax rate, and election order
The Cumby Collegiate ISD board met twice in the past week to consider a proposed 2026-27 budget and tax rate, an election order, and planning items. All four meetings were held on the agenda only, and minutes have not yet been published, so no decisions have been reported.
Budget and tax rate
On Aug. 18, the board held a public hearing and a regular meeting to discuss and vote on the proposed 2026-27 budget and tax rate. The proposed total tax rate is $1.08110 per $100 of taxable value, down from last year's adopted rate of $1.173900. The maintenance and operations (M&O) rate is proposed at $0.70110 per $100, which the district says is a 9.70% effective increase. The interest and sinking (I&S) rate is proposed at $0.43000 per $100.
The district notes that the M&O portion will raise more taxes than last year, which will reduce state aid and lower overall M&O revenue. The no-new-revenue tax rate is $1.03110, and the voter-approval rate is $0.84620. The median homestead value is projected to drop from $43,323 to $36,608, and the estimated tax bill on a median home would fall from $508.57 to $414.07.
The regular meeting agenda also included discussion of a facilities master plan and bond proposal, an extracurricular handbook, and LSG training. Administrative reports and a consent agenda covering financial reports and minutes were scheduled.
Trustee election
On Aug. 12, the board held a special meeting to consider and approve a Notice and Order of Election for the Nov. 3, 2026 trustee election. The agenda contained only that action item plus procedural items. No outcome has been reported.
Planning meeting
Also on Aug. 18, the board held a planning meeting that included an executive (closed) session under Texas Government Code sections 551.071, 551.072, 551.074, and 551.087, covering personnel, real estate, and legal matters. The board then reconvened in open session for discussion items and future agenda items. No specific decisions or proposals were listed.
