Leander ISD board weighs bond, tax rate elections; safety panel reviews audits
Leander ISD trustees met three times in the past two weeks, with the most consequential item being a discussion of whether to call a bond election and a voter-approval tax rate election (VATRE). No decisions have been published yet; minutes from the Aug. 6 regular meeting are pending.
Bond and tax rate discussion
At the Aug. 6 regular meeting, the board's agenda included adoption of the 2026-27 Student Code of Conduct, discussion of an ordinance adopting the 2026 property tax rate, and discussion of calling a bond election and a VATRE. Also on the agenda were employment considerations for Deer Creek and Larkspur Elementary School principals and adoption of a Williamson County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program memorandum of understanding. The board did not take action on these items, according to the agenda; minutes have not yet been published.
Facility committee workshop
On July 30, the board held a special workshop to review recommendations from the Citizens' Facility Advisory Committee and potential financial considerations for future bond or VATRE proposals. The agenda also included approval of minutes from prior meetings and closed sessions on legal, personnel, and student-data matters. No decisions were reported.
Safety committee
On Aug. 5, the School Safety and Security Committee discussed campus facilities, emergency management, police department operations, and bleeding control stations. A closed session reviewed the TSSC 3 Year Audit Report and intruder detection audits. The committee's agenda did not list any action items.
Coming up
On Aug. 11, the board will hold a special meeting for a grievance hearing. The board will enter closed session to hear and deliberate a complaint concerning school district employees, then may take action. Citizen comments are limited to agenda topics. The meeting will be livestreamed at leanderisd.org/boardlivestream.
