Merrillville School Board to vote on renovation, emergency repairs at Aug. 18 meeting
The Merrillville Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees met Aug. 4 to consider a new personal branding policy, a carousel motor purchase, and several donations, but minutes have not yet been published, so no official decisions are confirmed. The board also conducted building inspection tours Aug. 5–6. At its next regular meeting Aug. 18, the board is scheduled to vote on a renovation project and an emergency repair resolution.
Aug. 4 regular meeting
The board's agenda included:
- A recommendation to approve the MCSC Personal Branding Activities (PBA) School Board Policy.
- A recommendation to purchase a carousel motor.
- Approval of a fundraiser for the Merrillville String Boosters (Domino's Slice the Price cards).
- Acceptance of a $1,000 donation from Team Honda for the 2026 Back to School Carnival.
- Acceptance of various donations totaling $2,250 for schools and the Back to School Carnival.
Because minutes are not yet published, the outcome of these items is not confirmed.
Building inspection tours
On Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, the board conducted procedural building inspection tours of eight school facilities. No decisions or votes were scheduled. The tours covered:
- Fieler Elementary School, 407 W. 61st Avenue
- Miller Elementary School, 5901 Waite Street
- Salk Elementary School, 3001 W. 77th Avenue
- Iddings Elementary School, 7249 VanBuren Street
- Wood Elementary School, 6100 E. 73rd Avenue
- Clifford Pierce Middle School, 199 E. 70th Street
- Merrillville Intermediate School, 1400 W. 61st Avenue
- Merrillville High School, 276 E. 68th Place
Upcoming Aug. 18 regular meeting
The board will meet at 6:00 PM on Aug. 18. The agenda includes action items on:
- Approval of minutes from the Aug. 4 meetings and the Aug. 5–6 building inspection tours.
- Presentation of claims for approval.
- Personnel report and recommendations.
- Renewal of Synovia Software.
- Approval of architectural services for Project #26027.
- Approval of the Merrillville High School Culinary/Meeting Area and Administration Building Renovation Project.
- Approval of Resolution 889 authorizing emergency related repair services.
Donations on the agenda include $1,000 from Catch Merrillville LLC, $3,000 from Centier Bank, and various gift cards and supplies.
