DPSCD Board Agendas Include $1.75M Contract Increase, $2.4M Landscaping Deals
The Detroit Public Schools Community District Board met on August 11 and August 19, with agendas covering a $1.75 million contract increase for classroom supply distribution, $2.4 million in landscaping contracts, and a vote to fill a board vacancy. Contract Increase for Classroom Supplies
At the regular board meeting on August 11, the board was scheduled to vote on a contract amendment with Vedo Outsourcing for storage and distribution of curriculum materials. The amendment would increase the contract to $1,747,845. Other action items included approval of the 2026-2027 Superintendent evaluation tool, outside legal fees for Clark Hill PLC up to $650,000 for 2026-27, and the 2026-27 District Assessment Calendar. The board also planned to approve minutes from its July 14 and July 29, 2026 meetings.
Landscaping Contracts Total $2.4 Million
A special study session on August 19 included votes on two landscape maintenance contracts. Payne Landscaping, Inc. would receive a contract not-to-exceed $1,509,560 for Zones 1, 2, and 5. Premier Group Associates would receive a contract not-to-exceed $890,440 for Zones 3 and 4. Both contracts cover grounds maintenance, blight removal, and illegal dumping cleanup through June 30, 2027. The contracts stem from RFP 26-0180 issued October 29, 2025; four responses were received, and both vendors were selected as best qualified. The session also included a presentation on facilities and community use.
Board Vacancy Appointment
Also on August 19, the Board held a special meeting to fill a vacancy. The agenda included suspending Policy 0142.5 on vacancies, interviewing two candidates—Sherisse Butler and Jeremiah Steen—entering closed session under MCL 15.268(h) to consider a written legal opinion, and then voting to appoint a new member. Public comment was limited to three minutes per speaker for one hour.
