Cincinnati school board weighs property tax levies, income tax proposal
The Cincinnati Board of Education met three times in the past two weeks, with agendas covering potential property tax levies, an income tax proposal, and policy discussions. Minutes have not yet been published for any of the meetings, so no final decisions are confirmed.
Tax proposals on the table
At a special public board meeting on July 27, the board considered resolutions to proceed with submitting two property tax levies to voters: one for 7.0 mills and one for 8.0 mills. The board also considered a resolution proposing a 0.75% school district income tax question. The agenda included a public hearing for community input and an update on concerns at Fairview–Clifton German Language School.
Income tax rescission considered
At the board’s business meeting on August 3, a motion was on the agenda to rescind the resolution for the additional 0.75% school district income tax. Other items included the FY27 Chief Audit Executive Goals and Internal Audit Plan, a presentation on the Ohio Report Card component overview, and resolutions approving students eligible for payment in lieu of transportation and yellow school bus stops for the 2026–2027 school year.
Policy committee discussions
The Policy and Equity Committee met on August 4 to discuss several district policies. Items included an alcohol waiver for a 100-year centennial celebration at Cheviot Elementary School – Gifted Academy, continued discussion of Policy 5113.03 on High Schools of Choice Entra-District Enrollment Program, and Policy 8330 on Student Records. The committee also heard a presentation on Student Dining Services Board Policy Updates by Director Jessica Shelly, and discussed policies 8520 (Food Service for Needy Children), 8525 (Good Food Purchasing), 8530 (Lunchrooms), and 8540 (Lunchroom Package Inspection).
