Bedford boards set agendas on zoning, tobacco rules, fire station change orders; minutes pending
Bedford's boards and committees met over the past two weeks on topics ranging from zoning appeals to tobacco sales regulations and fire station construction. Minutes have not yet been published for any of the meetings, so outcomes of scheduled votes and public hearings remain unconfirmed.
Select Board
The Select Board was scheduled July 27 to vote on appointing Town Counsel, reorganize liaison assignments, and review FY26 goals while developing FY27 goals. Consent agenda items included one-day liquor licenses and board/committee reappointments.
Board of Health
The Board of Health was set July 27 to discuss and potentially vote on revisions to the town's tobacco sales regulations and a new food establishment permit for Café Services at Werfen, 180 Hartwell Road. The agenda also included updates on board goals and approval of draft minutes from June 15, 2026.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The ZBA scheduled a July 23 public hearing on five petitions: a variance for an addition at 2 Benjamin Kidder Lane (Amanda Carman); special permits for additions or new construction at 15 Hayden Lane (Dickinson Architects), 23 Crescent Avenue (Jenny Buchholz), and 103 Page Road (David Brickman); and a variance for a shed at 5 Springs Road (Pamela Brown for Philip Kallis). The board also planned to discuss updated standards for special permits and variances under state law.
Planning Board
The Planning Board scheduled a July 28 public hearing on a scenic road application for stone wall alterations at 102 Page Road (Derek Gardner, applicant). Policy discussions included dark sky lighting regulations, small clean energy facility permitting, data center permitting, a tree protection bylaw, and the 340 Great Road project. A subdivision hearing for 145 Davis Road was continued to August 11 without testimony.
Bedford Arbor Resources Committee
BARC was set July 22 to vote on draft edits to the Town's Tree Regulations and Tree Policy, which would apply fees and a permitting process to all private requests to remove Town-owned trees. The committee also planned to hear a Willson Park update from Elizabeth Knox, consider a request from Bedford Mothers Out Front to support a micro forest project, and elect a new chair.
Fire Station Building Committee
The committee was scheduled July 27 to review active construction work, the upcoming schedule, proposed change orders, completed and scheduled inspections, and risks related to scope, schedule, and budget.
Bedford Housing Authority
The Housing Authority planned July 23 to discuss and potentially act on the Ashby Place lighting project, including Change Order #1 and a Certificate of Final Completion for Fish #023063 — Railroad Ave. Lighting Replacement project, along with ongoing projects and administrative services.
Board of Assessors
The Board of Assessors was set July 28 to vote on the motor vehicle excise tax commitment for April 2026 and discuss a Town Meeting Article 21 application. The board also planned an executive session on legal strategy for ATB cases.
