Burton council to weigh $350K sidewalk project, demolition hearings

Burton city officials have a busy week ahead, with the City Council scheduled to consider a $350,000 sidewalk extension and a series of demolition hearings for properties deemed public nuisances or hazards. No decisions have been made yet, as minutes from the recent meetings have not been published.

City Council

At its Aug. 17 meeting, the council is to vote on amending the T.G. Priehs contract for the Genesee Road Sidewalk project to add an additional mile of sidewalk on Davison Road from Genesee to Belsay, at a cost of $350,000.00. The budget amendment would add $350,000 for the Davison Road sidewalk, offset by decreases of $115,000 from the Covert Road project, $75,000 from non-motorized funds, and $160,000 from the Major Street fund balance.

The Parks and Recreation Commission met Aug. 12 to discuss the Trick or Treat Trail, a new Chili Cook Off, a Walking Club update, and a Christmas Tree/Pizza with Santa event. No minutes have been published.

Burton City Council approves $602,566 road resurfacing contract; C-2 zoning ordinance stalls in tie vote

The Burton City Council approved a $602,566.25 road resurfacing contract for Burton Estates at its July 20 meeting, the largest dollar item among a slate of unanimous votes. A proposed ordinance to require special approval for certain C-2 general business uses failed to advance after a 3-3 tie.

Road resurfacing and street upgrades
