East St. Louis board hires firefighter, accepts resignations; committees review reports
The East St. Louis Board of Fire & Police Commissioners took several personnel actions at its Aug. 11 meeting, including hiring a probationary firefighter and accepting resignations from both the fire and police departments. All votes were unanimous. In addition, three city committees met Aug. 6 to review routine reports and consider budget amendments, but took no final action.
Board of Fire & Police Commissioners
The board approved the June 9, 2026 meeting minutes and accepted monthly reports from the fire and police departments. It accepted the resignation of Brandon Jackon from the fire department and Juan McCoy from the police department. The board hired Devin Suggs as a probationary fireman. It also set promotional exams: a sergeant exam for Sept. 12, 2026 at 8 a.m., and fire captain and lieutenant exams for Oct. 3, 2026 (captain at 8 a.m., lieutenant at 9:30 a.m.). All actions were unanimous. This was the only meeting with published minutes; the committee minutes have not yet been released.

The committee reviewed preliminary business license applications from Regulatory Affairs, and monthly reports from Regulatory Affairs, the Police Department, the Fire Department, and ESDA for June and July 2026.
