Charlotte boards weigh nearly $1M in spending, $13.4M grant application in recent meetings
Charlotte's City Council was scheduled to approve $961,793.46 in claims and expenditures and consider a $49,766 HVAC upgrade at the West Side Fire Station, according to the July 27 agenda. Several other city boards and authorities also met over the past two weeks, with agendas covering property tax corrections, downtown events, a major wastewater grant, and airport operations. Minutes have not yet been published for any of these meetings, so outcomes are not yet confirmed.
City Council — July 27
The City Council agenda included approval of claims and expenditures totaling $961,793.46, the largest dollar figure across this week's meetings. The council was also set to consider a contract with Hopkins Mechanical for $49,766 to upgrade HVAC controls at the West Side Fire Station, and a contract with Top Notch Tree Service for $35,000. Additional agenda items included a contract with Pottervilla for IT services and authorization for the City Manager to sign a grant agreement with EGLE.
Brownfield Authority Board — July 28
The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority was scheduled to review an EDA grant application for approximately $13.4 million, aimed at wastewater treatment and industrial park expansion. The board also planned to discuss the Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) fund, which has a balance of $1.3 million, and review LDFA and Economic Development fund finance reports. Nate Geinzer of Double Haul Solutions was listed to give a presentation on housing programs.
Downtown Development Authority — July 21
The DDA agenda included a consent agenda item for a $2,800 invoice from Charlotte Rising for the "Charlotte Regional Outreach Group 2026." The board was set to discuss sponsorship logistics for the Courthouse Concert and hear subcommittee reports on Halloween and Christmas decorations, following previous budget allocations of $5,000 each. Approval of June 16, 2026 regular meeting minutes was also on the agenda.
Board of Review — July 21
The Board of Review was scheduled to address qualified errors on the assessment roll, review agricultural property exemption denials, and grant agricultural exemptions. The agenda also included correcting uncapping errors for the current year and three prior years, plus hearing Poverty Exemption appeals.
Airport Advisory Board — July 31
The Airport Advisory Board agenda covered the Airport Master Plan, hangar updates, gas pump issues, a grant update, fly-ins, and discussion of a potential camping site. The meeting also included approval of prior minutes, a public comment period, and reports from the airport manager and finance.
