Lancaster City Council agenda includes fuel rebate, sewer rate hikes, $896,419 CDBG repurpose
The Lancaster City Council's Aug. 11 meeting agenda includes a proposed $50 fuel rebate for residents, a public hearing on sewer service charge increases, and a plan to repurpose $896,419 in federal grant funds for roof and HVAC work. City Council
The council will consider expanding its Shop. Drive. Earn. rebate program with a new Shop. Drive. Fuel. Earn. component, offering a $50 fuel rebate to residents. A separate ordinance would set mayor and council salaries at $2,550 per month, as permitted under Government Code Section 36516.
A public hearing is scheduled on proposed sewer service charge increases for fiscal year 2026/27, under Proposition 218. The agenda also includes a substantial amendment to repurpose $896,419 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the Sergeant Steve Owen Memorial Park to a city-wide facilities re-roof and HVAC project.
The council will also approve check registers totaling $33,171,185.47 for the period June 28 through July 25, 2026. A closed session on multiple litigation matters is listed.
Criminal Justice Commission
The Criminal Justice Commission met Aug. 12 to receive reports from law enforcement and other agencies. The agenda included a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department crime trends report, a California Highway Patrol update, a District Attorney update, and a Public Safety and Community Preservation update. The commission also considered approval of minutes from its June 10, 2026 meeting. No substantive policy votes were scheduled.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission met Aug. 17 and held public hearings on three conditional use permits, all recommended for approval with CEQA categorical exemptions:
- CUP 26-008: Expand a community care facility from 6 to 9 beds at 43900 Clark Court (APN 3129-024-021).
- CUP 26-001: Expand and operate a church at 44728 Challenger Way (APN 3147-003-094).
- CUP 26-007: Allow cannabis retail use at 633 Columbia Way (APN 3128-020-010) in the Light Industrial zone.
The commission also approved minutes from its July 20, 2026 regular meeting.
