College Park Council approves $2.23M roof replacement, $1.13M sewer contract
The College Park City Council on Aug. 17 approved a $2,233,400 roof replacement for the Georgia International Convention Center and a $1,128,310.21 water/sewer infrastructure contract with P2K Civil Construction. All votes were unanimous.
City Council actions
The council approved the following items, all with all members in favor:
- $2,233,400 for immediate GICC roof replacement
- $1,128,310.21 contract to P2K Civil Construction for water/sewer improvements at 4300 Spring Drive and Herschel Road to Global Gateway Connector
- $53,563.50 increase for traffic signal installation by RJ Haynie & Associates
- $140,954.50 purchase of 50 fire hydrants from Ferguson Waterworks
- $164,416.30 payment to The Employment Law Solution after a $20,000 credit
- Resolution 2026-21 for no parking restriction on Hawthorne Way
The council also set public hearings for a reasonable accommodation request at 2041 English Lane (Oct. 5) and a conditional height permit at 3636 College Street (Sept. 8).
Workshop on comprehensive plan and trash containers
Also on Aug. 17, the council held a workshop to review the draft of the city's comprehensive plan, presented by Inspire Placemaking Collective, and a presentation on universal trash containers from Cascade Engineering, given by Public Works Sanitation Superintendent Cedric Hand. No votes were taken.
The plan draft included data on housing, water supply, broadband, economic development, land use, transportation, community facilities, and natural and historic resources. Key figures in the draft:
- 537 housing units lost between 2019 and 2024; median home value rose to $325,800
- Water supply: 83% from East Point, 17% from Clayton County; lead/copper levels at the 90th percentile
- Transportation: 76% of residents' work trips leave the city; transit commuting at a 10-year low of 8.7%
The trash container presentation covered a proposal for universal containers, but no decision was made.
Coming up
The Charter Review Commission will meet Aug. 25 to approve minutes from September 2025 through July 2026, review Article 1 of the city charter, and hold an open discussion. The agenda is procedural, with no major decisions or public hearings scheduled.
