Commerce City faces busy meeting schedule; no decisions yet published
Commerce City officials have a full slate of meetings this month, but as of Aug. 17 no minutes have been published for any of the recent sessions, so no formal decisions are confirmed. The most consequential items on the table include a $4 million transfer for road widening, a proposed 2026 budget, and a possible moratorium on data centers.
Road funding and annexations
At its Aug. 3 regular meeting, the City Council was set to consider transferring $4,011,263 in road-impact fee funds for the Landmark Drive and Chambers Road Widening Phase I projects. The council also had on its agenda the annexation of property at the northeast corner of E. 81st and Quebec St (Moreno Salas Annexation) and an annexation and zoning change for property at the northwest corner of E. 88th Ave and Tower Rd from A-3 to AG. Other items included the purchase of a mechanical street sweeper from Intermountain Sweeper Co. and a construction contract for wayfinding signs with Blink Marketing LLC.
Budget and ordinances
At its Aug. 6 meeting, the council was scheduled to hold a public hearing and second reading of Ordinance 2026-01, adopting the 2026 annual budget. It also planned a first reading of Ordinance 2026-02, which would regulate short-term rental properties, and Resolution 2026-10, approving a $2.5 million contract with ABC Paving for E. 104th Avenue resurfacing. The agenda included discussion of a proposed fee increase for building permits and a public hearing on a special event permit for the Fall Festival at Pioneer Park.
Planning and zoning
The Planning Commission met Aug. 4 to consider a zoning map amendment (ZON26-0004) for 5199 Ivy Street, changing the designation from I-2 to I-3, and a conditional use permit (CUP26-0001) for above-ground storage of more than 48,000 gallons of food oil at that address. The commission also reviewed Ordinance 2795, which would amend the Land Development Code for grammar, formatting, and consistency.
Other recent meetings
Several other boards and commissions met during the past two weeks, all with agendas but no published minutes. The City Council Legislative Committee held a state legislative check-in on Aug. 3. The Veterans Commission reviewed its annual presentation and discussed a remodel for the Small Challenge Coin on Aug. 4.
