Dayton Commission approves $1M airport grant, zoning amendment; water and transit contracts on deck

The Dayton City Commission unanimously approved a $1 million air service grant and a zoning code amendment at its June 24 meeting, while several major contracts — including more than $3.5 million in water main projects and a $1.48 million transit policing agreement — are scheduled for consideration at the July 1 meeting.

City Commission — June 24

The Commission passed a zoning code amendment on second reading in a 4-0 vote. It also adopted resolutions approving a $1 million air service grant for the airport and property appropriations for two road projects — Smithville Road and Salem Avenue — each by a 4-0 vote.

Three members were reappointed to the Board of Tax Review in a 3-0 vote, with one commissioner identified as Joseph abstaining. The Commission also approved the City Manager's Reports and the previous meeting minutes, both unanimously.

Several items were introduced on first reading but not voted on.

Civil Service Board — June 25

The Civil Service Board was scheduled to consider multiple personnel actions, including approval of probationary discharges, removal of candidates from eligible lists, extension of city eligible lists, and reinstatement of a former city employee. The board was also set to receive a personnel actions report and hear public comments. Minutes from this meeting have not yet been published.

Human Relations Council — June 29

The Human Relations Council was scheduled to review final investigative reports for two civil rights cases: *Smith v. Dayton Family Housing LP* (Case No. 3950H) and *Criswell v. Bella Vista* (Case No. 3952H). The board was also to receive an update from the Executive Director and hear citizen comments. Minutes have not yet been published.

City Commission — July 1

The Commission is scheduled to discuss and vote on several contracts, including:

A public hearing will be held on a zoning text amendment related to group homes and foster care facilities. The Commission will also consider establishing a city-wide new community authority and the sale of two properties — 25 Indianola Ave and a Main/Helena site — for economic development. Source Water Protection Fund Board — July 2

The board was scheduled to receive a trust summary report and a quarterly report from CityWide. Items on the agenda included a Knox Box request from the Dayton Fire Department, the Triad Extension water supply project, and a sanitary liner project on Wright Way. The board was also set to review March 2026 meeting minutes. Minutes have not yet been published.
