Fridley Council to weigh park land transfer, 2027 budget at Aug. 24 meetings
The Fridley City Council will consider transferring city-owned parcels to Anoka County for continued operation as a regional park, and will discuss the 2027 proposed budget and preliminary levy, at its two meetings on Aug. 24. No decisions from the past two weeks have been published, as all recent meeting agendas were released without minutes.
Recent meetings
The City Council held two meetings on Aug. 10. A conference meeting covered an Employee Resources Update and the start of 2027 budget discussions. A regular meeting agenda included a resolution authorizing a Local Climate Action Grant from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for an electric vehicle charger at Commons Park, a temporary gambling permit for the Fridley Historical Society's Oct. 3 fundraising event, and approval of claims for the period ending Aug. 5. Both agendas were published without minutes.
The Environmental Quality and Energy Commission met Aug. 12 to elect a new chair, review the 2025 Drinking Water Quality Report, and receive updates on the Streets for All Plan, Energy Action Plan, grants, and outreach events. The agenda was informational and procedural.
The City Council met Aug. 14 to certify the Statement of Canvass for the 2026 Municipal Primary Election, the only item of new business.
The Planning Commission held a public hearing Aug. 19 on three conditional use permits: a hemp manufacturing use by Dripco LLC at 109 Osborne Street, an oversized garage by Gerhard Builders and Remodeling LLC at 531 Kimball Street, and a detached above-garage accessory dwelling unit by Jim Mackey, Architect, at 160 Talmadge Way. The commission also considered approval of its May 20 minutes.
Upcoming meetings
On Aug. 24, the council will hold a conference meeting to discuss the 2027 proposed budget and preliminary levy, along with updates on public safety, fire division staffing, and the water system. No specific dollar amounts are listed in the agenda.
The same day, the council will consider several resolutions, including:
- Resolution 2026-89: Authorizing a Local Climate Action Grant from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for an electric vehicle charger at Commons Park.
- Resolution 2026-92: Awarding the Flanery Park Improvements Project.
- Resolution 2026-93: Approving a memorandum of understanding with Coon Rapids and Anoka County for the FY2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program Joint Award.
