Gilchrist County sets 2026-27 budget, keeps millage at 8.5
The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners set the 2026-27 budget at an Aug. 13 workshop, keeping the millage rate at 8.5 and adjusting several spending lines. The board also appointed Tammy Moore as interim county administrator at a special meeting Aug. 10.
Budget decisions
The board made several adjustments to the upcoming budget, all recorded in official minutes:
- Removed $7,000 from Aid to Private (consensus)
- Approved $10,000 in funding to the City of Trenton for Fire Services (requested)
- Increased Fanning Springs Fire funding to $150,000, split 50/50 with EMS (consensus)
- Confirmed a $15,000 increase for road materials
- Increased the Solid Waste budget by $30,000 for contracted services
The board also confirmed maintaining the millage rate at 8.5, the MSTU at .9026, the fire fee at $177, and the solid waste fee at $120.
Interim county administrator
At a special meeting Aug. 10, the board unanimously approved appointing Tammy Moore as Interim County Administrator. The job description for the permanent position was scheduled to be finalized at the Aug. 17 meeting.
Aug. 17 regular meeting
The board held a regular meeting Aug. 17, but minutes have not yet been published. The agenda included:
- Resolution 2026-15: SHIP Local Housing Assistance Plan (LHAP) changes
- Resolution 2026-13: FDEP and SRWMD permit fee reduction request
- Locklear Engineering Invoice 544-25-3 (grant funded)
- Wilson Gas customer agreements and generator quote
- LESA Grant AJ009
