Adelanto Council Weighs November Sales Tax, $1.9M Road Contract

The Adelanto City Council convened twice in the past two weeks with a full slate of spending and policy items, including a proposal to ask voters to approve a 1% sales tax this fall and a nearly $1.9 million contract for pavement work. Official votes from both meetings had not been published by press time.

November sales tax measure

During its July 1 meeting, the council was scheduled to decide whether to place a 1% transactions-and-use tax on the November 3, 2026, ballot. If approved by the council, Resolution 26-37 and Ordinance 666 would ask city voters to enact the tax, which would be added to the municipal code as Chapter 3.70. The agenda also listed designation of voting delegates for the League of California Cities conference as part of the day’s business.

Air Expressway and budget extension

On June 24, the council took up a proposed $1,895,875 construction agreement with Sully-Miller for the Air Expressway Rehabilitation Project. The same meeting included a vote on Resolution 26-36, which would give the city 30 additional days to adopt the fiscal year 2026–2027 budget. The Adelanto Public Utility Authority, meeting concurrently, was scheduled to consider a $1,029,094 agreement with Layne Christensen to replace filter media at the water treatment facility, as well as a resolution to collect water and sewer standby fees through county tax rolls.

Park upgrades and cannabis oversight

On July 1, council members were also set to vote on two items related to Marconi Park: a $120,000 professional service agreement with Blue Builders, Inc., for parking lot rehabilitation, and a change order of up to $108,000 to the same contractor for seating and field stripes. A separate consent item would amend a cannabis compliance services agreement with HOsequio LLC, adding $300,000 over two years. Warrants totaling $2,506,047.92 were also on the consent calendar.

Assessments for maintenance districts

The June 24 meeting included public hearings and resolutions to levy annual assessments for the city’s landscape, streetlight, and drainage maintenance districts. A third-party claims administration agreement with Carl Warren & Company, LLC rounded out the agenda.
