Buda boards and council weigh $3 million park deal, business incentives, and budget in busy stretch

City Council: Buda Championship Park funding, incentives, and budget
The Buda City Council met July 17 and was scheduled to consider a $3,000,000 funding and performance agreement with the Buda Economic Development Corporation for facility improvements and programming at Buda Championship Park. Also on the agenda: a specific-use permit request for an animal veterinary office at 1111 Robert S. Light Boulevard (Sandlin Services, LLC), an ordinance to allow pot-bellied pigs as household pets, annexation of approximately 0.914 acres (Lot 4A, Possum Trot Park) into the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction, and a resolution authorizing up to $50,000 for Project Climb Cut and up to $75,000 for Taste Tindol Restaurant as economic-development incentives. Public hearings were planned on the pot-bellied pig ordinance and on the Project Climb Cut and Taste Tindol incentives.
A special budget session followed on July 19, where City Manager Micah Grau was scheduled to present the Fiscal Year 2026–2027 draft budget. Topics included funding allocations for Human Service Grants, a utility rate model with proposed water and wastewater rates, and proposed changes to the fee schedule. Buda Economic Development Corporation: LEAP incentives and Project Climb Cut
The Buda EDC met July 13 and again July 16, with overlapping agendas. The board was scheduled to hold public hearings on Local Enterprise Assistance Program (LEAP) incentives for four businesses: Mercantile at the Mill & Grain Co., LLC ($3,600.00), Garrison Plumbing LLC ($5,000.00), Teal House Bakery LLC ($2,500.00), and Buda's Red Door ($2,700.00). A separate public hearing and possible action on financial incentives for Project Climb Cut, not to exceed $50,000.00, was also listed. The board was set to consider amending the performance agreement with Taste Tindol Restaurant Incorporated, LLC, adopting updates to the Buda EDC Personnel Policy and Employee Handbook, and approving a lease agreement amendment. An executive session for economic-development negotiations on three projects was planned.
Parks and Recreation Commission: Eastside Park naming and leadership
The Parks and Recreation Commission met July 9 and July 15. Both agendas included deliberation and a possible recommendation on naming Eastside Park, election of a Vice Chair, and post-event reports on the Pony Girls Softball World Series Opening Ceremonies and the Red, White & Buda Celebration. The July 15 agenda also included approval of the June 24, 2026 meeting minutes and a staff report on Parks and Recreation Department project updates.
Historic Preservation Commission: Frontier Bank and Austin Street remodel
The Historic Preservation Commission met July 15 and July 16. Agendas included election of a Vice Chair, approval of the June 18, 2026 meeting minutes, and consideration of a perimeter fence request by Frontier Bank at 215 Railroad Street (HPC 26-04), a wall sign request by Frontier Bank at the same address, and a structure remodel request by George Torres at 404 Austin Street (HPC 26-06).
Main Street Advisory Board: leadership, walking tour, and holiday event
The Main Street Advisory Board met July 8, July 9, and July 17. Agendas covered selection of a new Chair and Vice Chair, updates to the FY26 Main Street Transformational Strategies work plan, planning for the Downtown Buda Historic Walking Tour and the 2026 Main Street Holiday Sip N Stroll, review of the Downtown Buda Master Plan, and discussion of a Main Street multi-use development proposal. The July 17 agenda included approval of the May 21, 2026 meeting minutes.
Other meetings
The Buda Bond Committee met July 17 to adopt May 18, 2026 meeting minutes and receive informational updates on Middle Creek reconstruction, the City Park East parking lot, Garison Park, and the "Big 3" transportation projects (Old Black Colony Rd, Austin St, W Goforth Rd). No decisions were indicated. The Commission on Aging was scheduled to meet July 20 at 5:30 PM to review and discuss the Age-Friendly Action Plan and consider possible amendments.
