Dayton boards set packed July 14 agenda: $655,000 EDC budget, major rezonings, and park projects
Dayton's City Council, Economic Development Corporation, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Parks Board all met July 14 with full agendas covering land use, municipal financing, and community improvements. Minutes have not yet been published for any of these meetings, so the items below reflect what each body was scheduled to consider — not confirmed outcomes.
Economic Development Corporation
The Dayton Economic Development Corporation was scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote on the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 Annual Budget totaling $655,000. The agenda also included votes on several community projects:
- Sawmill Park fencing and gates — $48,000
- Paradise Cafe renovations — $25,000
- Contract extension with The Retail Coach — $12,500
- Up to $150,000 for renovations and landscaping at 5995 Highway 146
- Up to $57,000 for playground equipment at the Dayton Community Center
- Up to $9,900 for renovations and landscaping at 805 N Cleveland
- Up to $5,000 contract with Sign of the Times for Parker Park and Henderson Park signage
- A grant of $9,835 to Adela's Multi Services Inc. for building improvements
A public hearing was also set on a possible grant of $28,550 to Patients ER at 708 Highway 90 for signage and landscaping. The board was scheduled to appoint a President and swear in newly appointed and re-appointed board members.
City Council
City Council was set to discuss two rezoning requests: 10 acres at 8482 Hwy 321 from Business Park to Suburban Residential, and 1.4262 acres at 4298 FM 1960 from Rural/Agricultural to General Commercial. Public hearings were scheduled for Reinvestment Zone #2 and #3. Council also had resolutions on the agenda to authorize the sale of surplus equipment to Rene' Bates Auctioneers Inc. and to purchase five new lift station pumps and related electrical work.
Planning and Zoning Commission
The commission faced a large slate of rezoning and platting items across multiple agenda postings:
- Rezoning 65 acres at 4445 Hwy 90 from Master Planned Development and Rural/Agricultural to Industrial
- Rezoning 16 acres at Hwy 90 and Stilson Road from Rural/Agricultural to General Commercial
- Rezoning 1.23 acres at 1103 N Cleveland St to General Commercial with a Conditional Use Permit for fuel sales
- Rezoning 2.9 acres at 4870 FM 1960 from Rural/Agricultural to Semi-Urban Residential
- Rezoning 15.03 acres at 325 County Road 602 from Rural/Agricultural to Suburban Residential
- Rezoning 0.3386 acres at 909 W Clayton St from Established Neighborhood to General Commercial
- Rezoning 6.06 acres on County Road 667 from General Commercial to Suburban Residential
- Replat of 4.4802 acres at 4298 FM 1960
- Replats for Gulf Inland Logistics Park street dedications at Rolke Road (6.6884 acres) and Riverbend Way (7.80 acres)
- Final plat for Phoenix Oil — 10.642 acres, 1 lot, 1 block
- Final plat for OmniSource LLC — 55 acres, 1 lot, 1 block
Board of Adjustment
The board was scheduled to hold public hearings on two variance requests: one for parapet/wall sign area and number at BuyBite #3, 303 S Winfree Street, and one for minimum interior side setback area at 1013 S Winfree Street. The board was also set to review minutes from May 14, 2026, and to consider recommending an applicant for the Board of Adjustment to City Council.
Parks Board
The Parks Board held a workshop to discuss an amendment to the Dayton Youth Sports Association Park Use Agreement, followed by site walkthroughs of Parker Park (1228–1090 N. Winfree St.), Daniel Park (1 Arnold Dr.), Sawmill Park (Sawmill Rd.), and Henderson Day Park (623 Luke St.). No final actions were scheduled.
