County sales tax, Lower Verzuh Ranch subdivision on July agendas; commissioners set to vote on $664k in contracts Aug. 4
Gunnison County commissioners had a busy late July, with agendas covering a potential sales tax ballot measure, a major subdivision sketch plan, and several land-use and contract items. Minutes for all three recent meetings have not yet been published, so outcomes are not yet confirmed in the official record.
Sales tax ballot measure under consideration
The Board of County Commissioners scheduled consideration of resolutions supporting a ballot measure that would add a 0.50% countywide sales tax. According to the July 21 agenda, the revenue would fund roads, bridges, and related transportation infrastructure. A separate agenda from the Gunnison County Housing Authority for the same date listed the tax as also covering public safety, and included a resolution referring the measure to the November 3, 2026 general election.
Because minutes are not yet published, it is not confirmed whether the board voted to advance either resolution.
Lower Verzuh Ranch subdivision deliberation
On July 28, commissioners held a special meeting to deliberate on a Major Impact Sketch Plan for the Lower Verzuh Ranch Subdivision. The agenda included consideration of a resolution to approve Land Use Change Permit LUC-25-00004. Minutes for that meeting have not yet been published, so no decision is confirmed in the record.
Dos Rios Townhomes permit and consent items
The July 21 agenda included a Minor Impact Land Use Change Permit, LUC-25-00038, for the Dos Rios Townhomes project at 37764 W. Highway 50. Consent-agenda items listed for the same meeting included:
- A $45,000 professional services agreement with the City of Gunnison, effective July 6, 2026 through December 31, 2027.
- A $7,320 Community Resource Network participation agreement with Contexture.
- A $30,000 Veterans Assistance Grant application to the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs.
Again, without published minutes, it is not confirmed which of these items were approved.
Coming up: Aug. 4 regular meeting
The Board of County Commissioners meets August 4, 2026, with a packed agenda. Commissioners are scheduled to vote on contracts and grants totaling $664,387.95, including:
- A $19,640 contract change order for the Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport.
- An $87,693 Solid Waste Rate Study RFP award to Raftelis.
- A $235,589.57 Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting Program grant.
- A $24,000 Region 10 Area Agency on Aging service contract.
- A resolution supporting a $1.2 million federal grant application for the Cumberland Pass Rehabilitation Project.
The board is also scheduled to approve four alcohol beverage licenses for Black Mesa Lodge LLC, Crested Butte Nordic Council, Kebler Corner Liquors LLC, and Tre Amici Corp. A fifth amendment to the professional services agreement with Sarah Elzay, extending the term through December 31, 2026, is also on the agenda.
