The JNU Airport Board was scheduled July 9 to vote on forward-funding $50,697 from the Airport Capital Reserve as the local match for a $963,247 FAA grant to replace the air traffic control tower roof. The board was also set to elect its chair and officers for the coming year. Board of Equalization hears Glacier Highway appeal

The Juneau Board of Equalization met July 16 via Zoom to hear appeal APL 2026-0073 for 11806 Glacier Hwy. Owners Brent & Erin Howell appealed the assessed value of $3,569,200 and requested a value of $2,436,685. The property includes a retail building with apartments and mini-warehouses. The board was also set to select a presiding officer.

Tourism task force continues work

The Visitor Industry Task Force 2.0 met July 9 and again July 16. The first session included review of a Tourism Vision Memo dated May 7, 2026, a presentation on regional dynamics, approval of draft minutes from June 18, and setting the next meeting for July 16. The July 16 session focused on data collection, long-term planning, and review of draft recommendations and an Approaches to Tourism Management Planning Memo. No votes or final decisions were expected.

Parks, sustainability, and emergency planning

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee met July 7 to discuss a draft ordinance on ebikes in parks, an amendment to the Trail Management MOU with Alaska State Parks, Juneau Mountain Bike Alliance project updates, a Treadwell scheduling policy, and the FY26 annual report.
