Kaufman council weighs budget, tax rate; KEDC budget vote set for Aug. 11
Kaufman city officials this week continued work on the proposed fiscal year 2026-2027 budget, including a proposed property tax rate of $0.7590000 per $100 valuation. No final decisions have been reported, as minutes from recent meetings have not yet been published. The City Council also considered several land-use items, and the Planning & Zoning Commission reviewed two replats. Next week, the Kaufman Economic Development Corporation is set to vote on its own budget and audit contract.
City Council budget and tax rate
The City Council held two work sessions on the proposed FY 2026-2027 budget: one on July 27 and another on Aug. 3. The Aug. 3 session was limited to discussion and direction to staff, with no formal action taken.
The July 27 agenda included public hearings on a specific use permit for a monument sign at 2005 South Washington Street and an amendment to Planned Development-26 on Kings Fort Parkway (Property ID 225369). The council also was scheduled to consider an economic development performance agreement with Myrish Hospitality for a Hampton Inn hotel project and ordinances approving annual service plan updates for three public improvement districts: Georgetown (PID 1), Prairie Creek (PID 2), and Freeman Farms (PID 3).
The agenda included a proposed property tax rate of $0.7590000 per $100 valuation, with public hearings scheduled for Aug. 17, 2026.
Planning & Zoning
The Planning & Zoning Commission met Aug. 4 to review two replat applications and recommend action to City Council. The replats are for the Harmony Bank property at 815 Kings Fort Parkway (Case RP-02-26) and the K.I.S.D Early Childhood Center Addition at 1605 Rand Road (Case RP-03-26). No substantive decisions were scheduled; the meeting followed a standard agenda with a brief public comment period.
